About KUM
KUM is a company with 100 years of history, producing a nice variety of stationery and school products, like rulers, protractors, erasers, or brushes, but it is especially well known for being the oldest producer of sharpeners in the world. We have been producing the finest and most precise sharpeners since 1919, and the quality is exceptional thanks to the extreme hardness of our blades.
We are the only company in the world that uses carbon-steel blades instead of inox steel. Furthermore, we use curved blades to get a Dynamic Torsion Action.
KUM produces the widest assortment of sharpeners for different purposes: school, fine arts, left-handed people, ergonomics … Most of these items are produced with magnesium instead of aluminum or cast metals, which is an unique feature of KUM. Magnesium not only used for its superior characteristics, but also for environmental reasons, as it is one of the most common elements in nature and is needed by every living organism to survive.
When producing plastic sharpeners, we use only 100% virgin polystyrene, and we additionally have a line of sustainable products made of Bio-Plastic or Bio-Fiber.
All KUM products are certified according to DIN ES ISO 9001 (Quality Management) requirements, and all our products comply with REACH and EN 71-3 regulations. None of our products contain dangerous substances like phthalates, heavy metals, or other toxins.
The wood used in our products (like the handles of our brushes) do not contain formaldehyde, lead, cadmium, or other toxins, as required by DIN 53160 regulations, and comes from European forests, which are subject to reforestation programs (FSC certification).
All manufacturing and waste disposal activities comply with the stringent requirements of the Federal Republic of Germany, the state of Bavaria and the city of Erlangen regulatory Agencies.
Our sales and transport packaging are in accordance with the 5th Amendment of the Packaging Degree.
We use close-circuit systems, where the cooling fluids are constantly recycled during the production process.
